Last day of school update form Dr. Jake Long Superintendent

Bombers,

That’s a wrap on the 21-22 school year. This was a year of learning and growth for our students and for our staff and families as well.

As we head into a much-earned summer break, I want to give you a couple reminders.

  1. The USDA’s meal cost waiver expires on June 30. That means that families who do not qualify for free meals will be responsible for paying for student meals again next school year. We have always asked all parents/guardians to fill out a free/reduced meal form during our back-to-school season, as it does help the district qualify for additional federal funds. In filling this out, a number of families who didn’t think they would qualify have ended up qualifying. This is a major help to many families – especially with rising food costs. After July 1 we will send out a digital application link that is quick and easy to fill out.

  2. I’m attaching an information sheet to this update that gives you some facts about the August 9 special election. We are asking for a millage increase of 2.25 mills. The fact sheet gives information about why we are asking for this increase as well as information about how this increase would impact taxpayers. If you’re interested in voting for the millage increase, keep in mind that you must register to vote by July 11 in order to be eligible.

  3. This summer we’ll be looking into our building safety procedures. We do this consistently, but I wanted you to know that in light of the recent tragedy in Texas, we are looking for opportunities to improve in this area.

I sincerely hope you all have a wonderful summer. Lots of things about this year were tough, but so are we.

Jake
