a graphic that says: an update from Dr. Jake Long Superintendent

Bomber Community,

It was a fantastic week in Bomber Nation! As you’re all probably already aware, we moved to Yellow status on the ACHI website, so masks are now optional at MHPS. I want to thank everyone for their cooperation as we started out this year. We’re making progress and headed in the right direction, and I am hopeful that we continue that way.

This week, we had 4 positive cases of COVID-19 in the district, 1 family probable close contact, and 11 additional probable close contacts.

Over the past few weeks, I have met with several new-to-the-district families. What I realized after a few of these visits was that COVID-19 has kept me from engaging with new families in some of the ways we did in the past.

I am really interested in meeting our new families, so I am planning to host a new families event next Thursday evening (9/23) from 5:30 to 6:30 in the Dunbar Auditorium on the high school campus (500 Bomber Blvd. -- near the Bomber plane). I want to extend an invitation to those families who have moved to our area and enrolled their kids in our school district in the past three years to come get acquainted with me and learn a few things about our district.

What I have always appreciated about my conversations with new families is that they have a fresh perspective on various educational issues. They ask questions that make me think. They have seen some initiatives succeed and some fail in other communities, so they’ve got valuable knowledge to share. Aside from that, I want to get to know our new families. I want them to know what we’re all about here at MHPS, and I want them to feel comfortable trusting us with their children each day.
